MySQL Database Administrator (AWS RDS / Aurora)
Company: Nextwebi Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka (On-site) Job Type: Full-time Experience: 2 – 8 years Budget: based on experience & fit Joining: Immediate Joiners Only — must be able to join within 15 days
About the Role
Nextwebi is hiring a Database Administrator with strong, hands-on MySQL and AWS RDS/Aurora experience to manage and optimize our production database environments. We welcome DBAs with broader backgrounds (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MariaDB, or other RDBMS/NoSQL platforms) as long as MySQL and AWS RDS are core, demonstrable strengths — not just listed skills. This role suits candidates ranging from focused mid-level MySQL specialists to senior multi-database DBAs with cloud expertise.
This is an immediate requirement. We are only considering candidates who can join within 15 days of offer.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain MySQL (5.x/8.x) databases across production, UAT, and development environments.
- Manage and support AWS RDS and Aurora MySQL instances — provisioning, patching, upgrades, scaling, and migrations.
- Implement and manage replication (GTID/asynchronous), Multi-AZ high availability, Read Replicas, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Perform backup and recovery using mysqldump, Percona XtraBackup, RDS automated snapshots, and point-in-time recovery (PITR).
- Tune query performance using EXPLAIN, slow query logs, indexing strategies, and parameter group optimization.
- Monitor database health using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or PMM; proactively resolve bottlenecks.
- Manage users, roles, privileges, security compliance, and audit requirements.
- Automate routine maintenance using Shell/Bash scripting and cron jobs.
- Troubleshoot critical production incidents (replication lag, locking, deadlocks, connectivity issues) and conduct root cause analysis (RCA).
- Participate in on-call rotation and resolve Severity-1 incidents within SLA.
- Support database migrations (on-prem to cloud, cross-version upgrades) with minimal downtime.
- Collaborate with application, DevOps, and infrastructure teams during releases and deployments.
Required Skills (Non-Negotiable)
- Strong, hands-on experience administering MySQL in production environments.
- Practical, demonstrable experience with AWS RDS (provisioning, monitoring, failover, scaling). Aurora MySQL experience is a strong plus.
- Solid understanding of replication, backup/recovery, and high-availability concepts.
- Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- Proficiency in Linux and Shell scripting for automation.
- Available to join within 15 days.
Good to Have
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MariaDB, or other database engines.
- Exposure to Percona toolkit, ProxySQL, MaxScale, or Vitess.
- AWS certification (Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect, or Database Specialty).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Background in regulated industries (BFSI, healthcare) with security/compliance exposure.
Qualifications
- Any graduate (Bachelor's degree in any discipline).
- 2–8 years of relevant experience as a Database Administrator, with MySQL and AWS RDS as core, hands-on skills.
