Project Overview

Nextwebi was engaged to design and develop the Travafa platform end to end, covering the full technology stack required to operate a live, multi-service travel marketplace. The scope of delivery included a centralized booking engine integrated with multiple Global Distribution Systems (GDS) through TBO API connectivity, supporting one-way, round-trip, and multi-city flight itineraries across both domestic and international sectors. Alongside flights, the platform delivered real-time hotel search, comparison, and booking, a dedicated activities and experiences booking module, and travel insurance integrated directly into the checkout flow. This experience was mirrored across native iOS and Android applications, with collaborative, multi-user itinerary planning built in to support group and family travel. To manage the entire ecosystem, Nextwebi also built a centralized admin control panel covering booking operations, supplier API monitoring, refund processing, pricing configuration, and reporting.

Business Challenges

Building a unified travel platform, rather than a single-service booking site, surfaced several operational and technical challenges that shaped the platform's architecture.

01

Fragmented Booking Experience

Travellers had no centralized platform for a complete journey. Flights, hotels, activities, and insurance each lived on separate sites, creating inconsistent pricing, duplicate data entry, and disjointed itinerary management.

02

Multi-GDS Integration Complexity

Flight inventory needed to be sourced from multiple Global Distribution Systems, each returning different response formats, fare structures, and fare rules. Normalizing this data into a single, consistent interface required significant engineering effort.

03

Domestic vs. International Booking Rules

Domestic and international itineraries follow entirely different rules for taxation, baggage allowances, passenger data requirements, visa documentation, and cancellation policies. The platform needed to adapt its booking workflow dynamically based on itinerary type.

04

Real-Time Inventory Management

Flight fares, hotel availability, and activity slots change by the second. The platform could not rely on cached or delayed supplier data — every price and availability check needed to reflect live inventory.

05

Unified Cancellation & Refund Logic

Each booking category- flights, hotels, activities - follows its own supplier-specific cancellation and fare rule structure. Building one consistent cancellation and refund workflow on top of these varying policies was a significant challenge.

06

Collaborative Trip Planning

Group travel planning typically happens across scattered conversations, spreadsheets, and multiple platforms. Travafa wanted this consolidated into a single, shared planning workspace.

07

Operational Visibility

The business needed one centralized admin portal to monitor API health, manage bookings and refunds, configure markups, and generate reports without depending on multiple disconnected back-office tools.

Our Solution

Nextwebi engineered a unified travel booking ecosystem connecting travellers, suppliers, and administrators through one shared architecture.

At the core is a centralized booking engine integrated with TBO APIs, aggregating real-time inventory from multiple GDS providers and travel suppliers. Instead of separate booking systems per service line, flights, hotels, activities, and insurance all run through the same standardized architecture  ensuring consistent pricing, synchronized booking data, and one unified user experience.

Delivered Across Three Connected Applications

Web

Travel Web Portal

A responsive web app for searching, comparing, and booking flights, hotels, activities, and insurance, with full itinerary management from a single account.

Mobile

Mobile Applications

Native Android apps and iOS apps offer the same booking capabilities, along with push notifications, e-tickets, digital vouchers, and on-the-go itinerary access.

Operations

Admin Control Panel

A centralized dashboard for managing the full booking lifecycle: reservations, supplier API monitoring, cancellations and refunds, pricing/markup rules, user management, and business reporting.

All three applications share a common data layer every booking, PNR update, payment status, and cancellation request syncs in real time across the ecosystem, eliminating duplicate records and giving both travellers and administrators a single consistent view of every trip.

The architecture was also built API-first, so new suppliers or service lines can be onboarded without a structural rebuild  positioning Travafa for growth beyond the initial service set.

Technology & System Architecture

The platform runs on a scalable, API-first, event-driven architecture engineered for high search-to-book transaction volume while holding sub-second response times against volatile supplier inventory.

Multiple GDS and NDC sources are aggregated through Amedeus, TBO, Galileo APIs behind a unified integration layer that normalizes fare data, availability, and fare rules into a single schema insulating the booking flow from supplier-side format differences, latency spikes, and timeouts.

Core Architecture Components

Supplier Aggregation & Normalization Engine

Unifies multi-GDS fare, availability, and fare-rule responses into one consistent schema.

Real-Time Search & Pricing Cache

In-memory caching layer that delivers fast search results without serving stale fares.

Booking Orchestration & PNR Management

Coordinates multi-supplier booking, ticketing, and PNR generation as a single transaction.

Payment Orchestration Layer

Handles multi-currency, split payments, retries, and refund routing across gateways.

Markup & Commission Rules Engine

Applies configurable pricing, markups, and margins per service line and supplier.

Event-Driven Message Queue

Asynchronous processing for bookings, cancellations, vouchers, and notifications.

Resilience & Failover Layer

Circuit breakers, retries, and supplier fallback routing to survive GDS timeouts.

Idempotency & Transaction Consistency

Guards against double-bookings and duplicate charges under concurrent requests.

Unified Data Layer & Analytics Pipeline

Single source of truth feeding real-time reporting and conversion analytics.

Admin Control Panel

The admin dashboard functions as the operational backbone of the platform, giving the operations team full visibility into bookings and supplier performance.

Function Capabilities
Booking Management View/modify bookings, track status, verify payments, manage traveller records
API Monitoring Track supplier API uptime, response times, error logs, booking failures
Cancellation & Refunds Initiate cancellations, track refund status, process manual refunds, override workflows
User Management Customer profiles, booking history, agent accounts, role-based permissions
Revenue & Analytics Revenue reports, booking trends, popular destinations, search-to-booking conversion, supplier performance

Results & Business Impact

By consolidating flights, hotels, activities, and travel insurance into one platform, Travafa moved from a fragmented, single-service model to a full-journey travel business changing how revenue is earned, how efficiently the team operates, and how quickly the business can scale.

Higher Revenue per Booking

Cross-sell across the full trip

Bundling hotels, activities, and insurance into the same checkout increases average order value per traveller, turning a single flight sale into a complete-trip transaction instead of losing that spend to competitors.

Reduced Drop-off

Fewer abandoned bookings

Keeping search-to-checkout in one continuous session removes the tab-switching and repeated data entry that cause travellers to abandon carts, improving search-to-booking conversion.

Lower Operating Cost

One dashboard replaces many tools

Centralized booking, refund, and supplier monitoring cut the manual back-office effort and multiple third-party systems the team previously depended on, reducing operational overhead per booking.

Faster Fulfilment

Automated confirmations & refunds

Automated booking workflows and a unified cancellation engine shorten confirmation and refund turnaround, lowering support ticket volume and improving customer trust post-booking.

Revenue Accuracy

Live inventory protects margins

Real-time multi-GDS pricing and normalized inventory prevent overbooking and stale-fare losses, while configurable markups give the business direct control over margin on every service line.

Market Reach

New customer segments unlocked

Collaborative group itineraries and combined domestic + international support open up family, corporate, and group-travel segments that a single-service portal could not serve.
